I cannot believe it has been so long since I update this page! Where does the time go?? Anyway, I had a blast with Marie in Las Vegas last weekend. Marie comped mine and my mother rooms at the Flamingo Hotel along with three show tickets! It was a thrill to go to the VIP registration area, have the man open the door for me and announce to the desk clerk I was a guest of Marie Osmond! People turned and looked. My mother was given suite 7000 and Tim and I had suite 19031. I met up with my friend from Ireland named James and he gave me a DVD of Marie (Thanks James!)
The next evening at 6:30 we were taken backstage, Marie was sleeping in her dressing room, so my mother, my friend Tim and I went to the green room to relax. A few people came over to say how great it was to meet me and shake my hand, which was very nice of them to do. My mother looked over Marie's costumes for the show. Marie came out about 30 minutes later looking beautiful. She gave me a hug and said how nice it was to meet me finally. I showed her a few things I had brought down for her out of my collection and she loved them. She then had to get ready for the 7:30 pm show. I was given two brand new (taken two days prior!) photos of Marie and we were then taken down the stairs to the showroom through the kitchen. We had VIP booth # 6A I think it was. The show was great! The best Donny & Marie show I have seen... and I have seen them a lot over the years.
Next Marie and Donny had to do the meet and greet. We were taken backstage on the actual stage with the red curtain closed for a while as Marie and Donny met a few fans there for photos. Then they went to the meet and greet area with a wall designed with the show logo (Donny & Marie). My mother, Tim and I went up to Marie's private dressing room (right next to Donny's) to wait for Marie to return. I spoke with her make-up man and photographer named Kim. He was so nice and fun to talk with. He showed me Marie's make-up area and some other area's of the dressing room (I took video!) Then my mother, Tim and I sat on Marie's couch to talk more. Then Kim gave me a doll that was given to those who attended Marie's Birthday Bash- see my collections page for the photos. I could not attend the party since I was doing a play and could not get away. The photos are marked NEW and are under the RARE Items heading.
After a while we were taken down to the meet and greet area after most of the fans had left and my mother got to hug Donny. I shook his hand and he gave me a start with the way he shakes hands. He snaps his fingers and I thought something had broken! Next my mom had a professional photo taken with Donny, but I knew he had to get to the airport and leave for Los Angeles and Dancing with the Stars so I didn't want to bother him with a photo. But Donny insisted we take photos since I had given Marie so many collectibles. So we had some professional photos taken with Donny and Marie and then Donny left for the airport. Meanwhile Marie signed a few impromtu autographs for fans who walked up and then we were escorted back through the long hall to the backstage entrance near the kitchen where we returned to Marie's upstairs dressing room. There we sat for a while talking until dinner. Marie, Darla (Marie's good friend and assistant), Kim (Marie's assistant), my mother, Tim, and I then took another "behind the scenes" walk down to Steakhouse 46 there at The Flamingo for dinner. Marie could not walk through the casino without being mobbed anbd that is why we had to take the tunnel routes.
We had a great dinner and talked and laughed about so much! We also had some serious talks which were great. Then we went back up to Marie's dressing room and Marie signed some LP's and posters for me and played some of her new album for us on her iPhone. I can't wait to hear the whole album! Marie was going to play some of the new Donny & Marie album, but the cord for the iPhone was not working well. Marie still had to sign 350 dolls for the next Monday so we bid everyone goodnight at midnight and left for our rooms. We had a ball!
Before I left Marie told me to come down again soon, that I had an open invitation to be her guest at any show any time during her and Donny's run at the Flamingo! They are there through 2012 I believe. I will go back again next Spring for a visit and again when the new collection museum opens with Donny & Marie memorabilia at the Flamingo. It was a great time and below are some photos from that Saturday night! More photos to come!
Until next time!
Sincerely,
~Daniel Selby
